We are all actors

We don’t get paid as much as Hollywood stars because we’re not very good at pretending to be someone we’re not. That’s the only difference. They simply have a talent for forgetting who they are, allowing them to step into someone else’s mind. It’s possible that actors have the best-developed Theory of Mind of anyone on the planet.

Being able to get inside someone else’s mind isn’t the same thing as understanding their situation. I’m digressing so I’ll get back to the point.

We are all actors. And like professional actors, we have some capacity for understanding another person’s plight, and like professionals, we treat the subjects of our curiosity as objects. Our attention lasts only a few seconds, or maybe minutes. The length of a scene. Our lives are a series of scenes, and cinema has simply found ways to reproduce the perceived reality we share in the discontinuous manner our brains are accustomed to.

The next time you watch a movie, consciously place yourself in the story, not as a viewer but as a participant. You have of course been doing this all your life; my point is to think about it, and maintain that sense of being in the action. You will find that it is reality.

This is the reason for the title of this post. We play roles, a well known fact, but the sociologists don’t dare go further. They can’t say what is obvious: Most of us shouldn’t waste our time thinking but just go with the flow, and play our roles.

It’s good to know your role. Just do it!

Unfortunately, I can’t do that…bummer; however, I can write these blogs that no one will read…

LOL.

I read your blogs Tim. Mostly because I am genuinely interested in what’s on your mind. And I am interested in what’s on your mind because I am your sister and I love you deeply and care about you…something I do a shabby job of showing. You know what I’d like to hear? I’d like to hear your thoughts on the book of Revelation. Not, just a basic read, but your interpretation. I find this to be the most fascinating work ever written, mostly because it tells us how the age of humanity ends… AND many people including myself believe we are oh so close. Studying the book of Revelation is not an easy task. And drawing the correlation to timing requires a solid understanding of what’s going on in the world.

I know you have no respect for me or my thoughts. I’m not sure how you got there, and it’s not important. What is important is your relationship with Jesus Christ. I’ve spent the past 4 years studying he Bible, and experiencing both Jesus and Satan at work in my own life. Both are very real. The Bible is indeed the word of God, there is a Heaven and a Hell – they are tangible real physical places. You only get to Heaven by believing that Christ died on the cross for your sins.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Matthew 7: 21-23 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Your comment didn’t address anything in my post, so I’m not sure what you expect in response, other than an essay on the book of Revelations from the Christian New Testament. However, I gave that a lot of thought, so much that I wrote the Unveiled series of novels to discuss this very question. I have given Revelations a lot of consideration and published my tentative conclusions…no one is listening.

I don’t know if you just posted your reply or what happened…but I only received a notice of your comment this morning!

Interesting that you’ve already written about the book of Revelation! I’d love to check it out. A key component of MoON TUG is a course called HARP and one of the modules uses the book “Unveiling Revelation” by Ernie and Mary Kroeger…it represents their liives’ work of 50 years.

Can you bottomline your thoughts on Revelation?

I am deep into breathing life into the MoON TUG movement but hope to check out your “Unveiled” series as soon as possible. I assume it’s available at Amazon.com?
